Greenfield-Central earns HHC wrestling title, fourth in last five years

With 10 of 14 wrestlers finishing in the top three, led by three champions, Greenfield-Central claimed its fourth Hoosier Heritage Conference boys wrestling title in the last five years.
The Cougars had four runner-up finishes to go with three thirds, a fifth and two sixth-place finishes and scored 226 points in Saturday’s tournament at Yorktown High School.
New Palestine, also with three champs, was second with 199 points. Yorktown was third with 180.5, and defending champion Delta scored 152. Mt. Vernon had two champions and finished eighth with 83.5 points.

The fierce competition makes it feel like a mini-state tournament.
The Hoosier Heritage Conference Boys Wrestling Championships take place at Yorktown High School today with the field filled with some of the state’s top wrestlers.
Hancock County schools Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon and New Palestine hope to dethrone defending champion Delta. A year ago, the Dragons were runners-up and the Cougars placed third. Host Yorktown, Pendleton Heights, New Castle and Shelbyville round out the eight-team field.
Historic Day: Four county wrestlers earn all-state honors at inaugural IHSAA finals​​

INDIANAPOLIS — There were tears from victories, tears from losses and smiles from being part of a historic event in Indiana high school sports.
Friday’s IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Finals at Corteva Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairgrounds put a close to the inaugural season of girls wrestling as an IHSAA-sanctioned sport.
Five wrestlers from Hancock County — three from Greenfield-Central and two from New Palestine — participated in the championships in front a loud crowd excited to see their sport reach a new level.
